As a second-round pick in 2019, Samuel spent the best years of his career with the 49ers. His ability to advance the ball after receiving the pass was one of the 49ers' most relied-upon offensive weapons for a long time. In the 2021 season, Samuel averaged 1,770 rushing and receiving yards, earning a Pro Bowl and All-NBA First Team selection.
The catalyst for this return was Ricky Pearsall's recurrence of a ACL injury, which created a gap in the team's receiving lineup, leading the team to recall Samuel. Samuel also announced that he will wear the number 19 San Francisco 49ers jerseys, the number he wore during his time with the 49ers from 2019 to 2023.
